I believe in following as many avenues in art as possible.  I started my art career with painting murals in Seattle and studying jewelry design at North Seattle Community College.  I soon discovered I wanted to combine the intricate work of jewelry with the scale of murals.  This led to receiving a Bachelor of Fine Arts in sculpture from the University of Washington.  While at UW, my focus was public art and outdoor sculpture with a desire to create long lasting pieces that could be enjoyed by as many people as possible.  I turned to mosaics as a way to create color, texture, scale, and longevity.  My most recent work has focused mainly on large mosaics balanced with public, site-specific installations and smaller, more intimate concrete sculptures.

My work is installed in such varied locations as the outside entrance of a movie theater, a baseball stadium, the floor of a public university building, and a decorative outdoor wall on Lake Washington.  The materials I use, whether stone, concrete, porcelain, or glass, are used with thoughtful consideration to the visual message of the piece as well as the structural, for not all materials are appropriate for the outdoors. Specifically, mosaics are essentially pictures made up of very small pieces.  The beauty of this medium is that they are very touchable and visually enjoyed up close while still conveying a message from a distance.

I moved to Tacoma from Seattle in 2004 in order to be part of a smaller, more connected artist community. I feel like I was welcomed with open arms!
